Made with ancient Black Maire root, found on our farm, these ONE OFF statement piece earrings have been handcrafted and shaped to form female Huia beaks complete with a copper wattles on each side of each beak. It was believed the last sighting of the Huia in the Pohangina Valley was around 1889.

To showcase the timber, the smooth rounded shaped of the beaks have been oiled to create a matt finish but still allow the unique grain of the maire to admired. The Black Maire (Nestegis cunninghami) tree typically symbolises strength and is one of New Zealand’s hardest timber, local to the Pohangina and Ruahine Ranges.
