Painted in soft layers on a richly grained slab of ancient maire, her pale fleece and sharp eyes contrast with the timber’s warmth and dark natural edges. A fine white messenger thread curves across the surface, connecting her story to a wider thread of memory, land, and labour.

This piece honours the often unseen wisdom and presence of working animals, those who shape rural life and landscape with their constancy. Finished with a glassy resin coat that deepens both texture and tone, this is a one-of-a-kind work from my Maire and Messenger series, where symbolism, natural materials, and lived experience meet.
