A painting inspired by a golden riverbank filled with kōwhai and a chorus of Tūī.

We were in the depths of spring when Sammy D brought us down to a spot on the river where the kōwhai were blooming in abundance. Tūī flocked there in numbers, chattering, singing, squabbling, and drinking nectar. The whole place hummed with life and this piece is my tribute to that unforgettable moment.

Painted in acrylic and sealed beneath resin for depth and sheen, the miniature is encircled in a copper strap frame - a warm, earthy complement to the Tūī’s shimmering blues and greens. The colour palette for this collection draws from the rich tones of aged copper patina, a theme that will continue into the printed mini Christmas décor to come.
